City of Rotterdam, 120 locations

The City of Rotterdam wanted to offer Wi-Fi at all municipal locations—securely, privacy-friendly, and without putting pressure on their own organization. Publicroam set it up in two days.

Since March 2021, Publicroam has been available at over 120 locations in the municipality of Rotterdam. A key requirement for the municipality was that everyone could go online safely. With a personal account and a connection based on WPA2-Enterprise and certificates, Publicroam meets that requirement. At the same time, Publicroam only stores a very limited amount of data temporarily, solely to ensure the service works properly. This allows it to meet the municipality’s strict privacy requirements.

From time-consuming management to zero

Before implementing Publicroam, network management created Wi-Fi accounts with limited validity for visitors. A time-consuming task that cost many expensive hours in issuance and management. Those hours are no longer necessary. Visitors easily request an account themselves and activate it without help. In almost all cases, people get this sorted in no time. Publicroam answers all questions about Publicroam itself, via support pages, email, and phone. There is no need to involve your own helpdesk.

Live quickly, easily scalable

A proof of concept was realized within half a day. The final technical rollout took no more than two days. And once the connection with the Publicroam RADIUS is established, adding more locations is a matter of minutes. The municipality budgets no more than one or two days for annual technical maintenance.
